Leveling Up Engagement at TOKEN2049 Dubai with Moongate
Following our successful collaboration in Singapore, Moongate returned as the official engagement partner for TOKEN2049 Dubai — one of the most anticipated crypto gatherings of the year. This time, we expanded on the foundations of last year’s Quest app by introducing a brand-new leaderboard feature, driving even more competition, engagement, and fun.
Background
TOKEN2049 Dubai gathered crypto founders, builders, and leaders from around the world at Madinat Jumeirah, offering a vibrant space for networking, ideation, and community building. As one of the flagship events of the Web3 calendar, maintaining high engagement throughout the multi-day conference was essential — not just for the attendees, but also for the sponsors and ecosystem partners activating onsite.
Key Objectives
Moongate partnered with TOKEN2049 Dubai to achieve the following:
- Drive Participation: Incentivize attendees to explore the venue, visit sponsor booths, and complete on-site activities and on-line quests.
- Promote the TOKEN2049 Brand: Utilize ‘Llamapoints’ and official merchandise to enhance brand visibility.
- Sustain Engagement Across Days: Use gamification and real-time progress tracking to maintain momentum throughout the event.
- Enhance Sponsorship Value and ROI: Elevate sponsor visibility and maximize their return on investment by integrating their brands into interactive and engaging activations.
- Promote Value-Accretive User Behavior: Encourage attendees to explore various sections of the venue, including low-density zones, and motivate them to complete tasks they might otherwise overlook, such as downloading the official Token App.
- Introduce Competitive Motivation: Launch a new leaderboard feature to encourage friendly competition and increase quest completion rates.
Solution
Building on the success of our 2024 collaboration in Singapore, we implemented a revamped quest experience in Dubai, with several enhancements:
- Unified Quest System: All activities — from QR quests to social actions — were accessible in one white-labeled quest app tailored specifically for TOKEN2049, reducing friction and improving user flow.
- User-Friendly Experience: Attendees could effortlessly join quests, earn points, and redeem rewards simply by scanning their QR codes. The app supported social logins, allowing for quick and seamless sign-ins.
- Real-Time Leaderboard: We introduced a live leaderboard where users could track their progress and compete for top ranks. This new gamified layer significantly increased engagement duration.
- Flexible Reward System: Attendees earned points by completing quests and could redeem them for official merchandise — redeemable at designated booths.
- Sponsor-Friendly Admin Management Portal: TOKEN2049 had dynamic control over quest settings, reward limits, and redemption policies throughout the event.
Impact
The TOKEN2049 Dubai activation delivered strong engagement across the board:
- High Participation: 3,547 total completions, including digital and on-site quests
- Extensive Quest Completion: 2,685 completed quests generating 562,400 total Llamapoints
- Significant Rewards Earned: 862 redemptions, accounting for 422,050 redeemed Llamapoints
The new leaderboard proved especially effective — keeping attendees engaged, encouraging repeat participation, and adding a new layer of visibility to sponsor activations.
